funny looking kid

well, we survived the garage sale. the packing kicks into high gear. but
not just yet. we're taking this evening and tomorrow morning off to recover.
i'm surprised at what sold. various cups and saucers, comic books, the tv cart,
the tv (okay, not so surprising), the Super Nintendo, the SNES games, a Fodor's
Cityguide to Austin (plus a map from the Chamber of Commerce), the iron,
the ironing board, and my "a bug's life" vhs tape (this one's not so surprising,
either).

oh, and this 12-quart pot we bought at target the first week we were here,
because we needed something to cook pasta in. that was the biggest pain in the
rear, because it was too big for the dishwasher, and almost too big for our
tiny kitchen sink, so we were always knocking stuff over when attempting to
wash it. eventually i would wind up washing it in the bathtub. it's all good,
as it was always used just for pasta, nothing else. still, more trouble than it was
worth. good riddance, i say. but it was the first thing to go. unbelievable. :-)

The running tally so far: 218 file boxes, 30 heavy-duty shipping boxes,
98 yards of box-sealing tape, 374 VHS tapes, 49 DVDs, 620 CDs, 2981 books,
and we've drunk 30 liters (60 half-liter bottles) of Ozarka natural spring water
while packing this stuff up.

Garage sale is this coming Saturday. We're selling:
washer & dryer
tv
couch
desks (2)
SNES (I can't believe it never made it into the house from the move)
SNES games
computer parts (video cards, network cards, etc...)
cordless phone

and whatever else I wind up digging up that we decide not to keep

The archaeological expedition in my study is turning up bunches of stuff.
It's like opening presents. Some of this stuff I forgot I had. Others I
intentionally blocked out :-) I think I'm back to 1999 now.

Selected items from today's haul:
6 reams inkjet paper
c's photo album from her study abroad program at pembroke college, cambridge (england)
danny dunn, scientific detective
crane's stationery + envelopes (for resumes and cover letters!)
car adapter for our cell phones (always good to have, when you know
you'll be out on the road ...)
return address labels from the last place we lived, which also happens to be
where we're moving to, so ... cool. :-)

I briefly considered selling the reams of paper at the garage sale, but c. talked me out of it.

I've been too busy to write a real update. Just wanted to make a note here
of the fact that I'm now a contributor to the Circusworld blog (no, it's nothing to
do with circuses... nothing directly anyway ;-) )
