Driving on Mopac today we saw a car with Texas vanity plate "INSANE"
Uh, yeah, better them than me I guess.

You are a siren.
What legend are you?. Take the Legendary Being Quiz by Paradox
Song lyrics of the day:
Cross My Heart - Everything But The Girl
(Thorn / Watt)
Now and then, do you wash your hands of me again?
Wish me anywhere but home drunk and on the end of your phone.
From time to time, do you guess what's really on my mind?
Guess that "How you keeping now?" means "Where are you sleeping now?"
But of course it's not polite to ask you where you spent last night.
And if I did you might reply that I have no right,
and anyway I'm fine, glad that you're no longer mine
If I should tell a lie I'll cross my heart and hope to die.
You'd be appalled if you knew what I was doing when you called.
Yes, I can see I'm blundering. Always end up wondering:
Will it ever be all right to ask you where you spent last night?
And can it be polite the way we never write?
Of course I don't have the time, and anyway I'm fine.
If I should tell a lie I'll cross my heart and hope to die.
Cross my heart
I hope we never die.

and on that note...
Chelle writes from Indianapolis, where she's attending a conference, that they apparently
don't sell postcards at all the places where she's expected to find postcards to send to her
friends. Surely Indy has *some* tourist attractions, ones that might be featured on postcards...

And now, the Friday Five:
1. Do you have a car? If so, what kind of car is it?
I have a 1994 Honda Civic LX sedan. It's blue. I like it a lot.
2. Do you drive very often?
Not as much as I used to. I used to commute from Berkeley to San Jose, so I was on the road a lot.
3. What's your dream car?
Wouldn't really call it a dream car, but I'd like to buy one of the new hybrid CR-V's soon...
4. Have you ever received a ticket?
Yes. One parking ticket, one speeding ticket.
5. Have you ever been in an accident?
Yup. I was on the freeway and swerved to avoid a critter (might have been a squirrel or skunk or something)
and lost control of the car. I feel very fortunate to have 1) not have hit anybody, and 2) gotten out of it shaken
but otherwise unhurt. The car had to have major body work done on it though.

Haven't posted in a couple of days. Been really busy.
Tuesday was a really blah day. Didn't go to bed Monday until almost 4am because
I was working on website planning so most of Tuesday was spent recuperating.
Wednesday was fun. Richard and Ulrike from one of my mailing lists are visiting town,
and we got to meet up with them Had fun hanging out at Borders just talking, and
then went to see the bats. (Austin is home to a large colony of Mexican free-tail bats,
which has made its home under the Congress Avenue bridge -- see
http://www.batcon.org/discover/congress.html
for info)
This morning was less fun. Went to the dentist to get a permanent crown put in. Ouch.
But afterward we went to the Austin Museum of Art downtown to see their
fascinating exhibit, "The Circus in 20th Century American Art: Images From The World Between"
No really famous works, but lots of good interesting pieces including works by Alexander Calder, Diane Arbus,
Walker Evans, Alfred Stieglitz, Walt Kuhn and Lisette Model. Had fun there. :-)

I've been playing with greymatter. Looks like an interesting system, particularly if you
don't have the database capability required by MovableType.

I was up until 4am working on the revamp for the web site of the company
we're consulting for. What time is it? *yawn*

Old Friends - Everything But The Girl
Not for the first time I look back
on all those years
Not for the last time names will ring
in my ear
When there was just a gang of us
Storming the town by train and bus
A moment of thought this heart sends
to old friends
Not for the first time I look back
on my first love
Unable to speak or think or move
hand in glove
But what of it now and where is he
He who once meant so much to me
Because we are not, I can't pretend
now old friends
I was told love should hold old friends
I was told love should hold od friends
But when you leave you will close the door
behind you
Don't we always
And time won't make amends
to old friends
Standing here with my arm around you
life's moved on
And all its borderlines
are being redrawn
Winter has come, the roads are white
Everyone's home late tonight
May we stay or will it depend
as old friends
In the end still old friends
