It just started raining, with occasional thunderclaps. I drove by a
clock/thermometer display on the way to the grocery store about an hour ago
and it said it was 98 degrees out. Hopefully this will cool things
down around here.

We're planning on catching the last show of The Road to Perdition later
this evening.

i'm up way too late. yes i am. but i did just finish viewing the two-part first-season finale
of jeremiah. pretty intense. reminiscent of the arc episodes of babylon 5. quite a few
of the same themes explored. i hope the show gets renewed. but what do i know...

I'm in a wandering sort of mood, the days have been long and hot, and it's the weekend.
Consequently, without further ado, the song lyrics of the day:

Get Out The Map - Indigo Girls
(E. Saliers)

I'm gonna clear my head
I'm gonna drink that sun

The saddest sight my eyes can see
Is that big ball of orange sinking slyly down the trees
Sitting in a broken circle while you rest upon my knee
This perfect moment will soon be leaving me

Suzanne calls from Boston the coffee's hot the corn is high
And that same sun that warms your heart will suck that good earth dry
With everything its opposite enough to keep you cryin'
Or keep this ol' world spinning with a twinkle in its eye

Get out the map, get out the map and lay your finger anywhere down
We'll leave the figurin' to those we pass on the way out of town
Don't drink the water there seems to be something ailing everyone
I'm gonna clear my head
I'm gonna drink that sun
I'm gonna love you good and strong while our love is good and young

Joni left for South Africa a few years ago
And then Beth she took a job all the way over on the west coast
And me I'm still trying to live half a life on the road
Seems I'm heavier by the year (heavier by the year) and heavier by the load (heavier by the load)

Why do we hurtle ourselves through every inch of time and space
I must say around some corner I can sense a resting place
With every lesson learned a line upon your beautiful face
We'll amuse ourselves one day with these memories we'll trace

Get out the map, get out the map and lay your finger anywhere down
We'll leave the figurin' to those who pass on the way out of town
Don't drink the water there seems to be something ailing everyone
I'm gonna clear my head (I'm gonna clear my head)
I'm gonna drink that sun (I'm gonna drink that sun)
I'm gonna love you good and strong while our love is good and young
I'm gonna clear my head
I'm gonna drink that sun
I'm gonna love you good and strong while our love is good and young

Primary Ability:

Healer

Healers are gentle people, gifted with the ability to heal others with the strength of their own minds. They can examine a person's body and aura, helping them to recover from injury or sickness. Healers never put themselves first, and can be generous to a fault.

Secondary Ability:

Farseeker

Farseekers posses the ability to communicate over great distances via telepathy. They are great friends who know when they're needed, and seem to be able to detect others thoughts.

lyrics for today (happy friday!)

Everything I Want To Be - Save Ferris

I find myself
I'm just awastin' my time away
No matter what I do
It always ends up the same
One minute moves
Into the next
My life was simple
But now it's complex
And it doesn't seem to mean anything at all
And everything I want to be
Is just another silly dream, you see
But I'll keep dreaming just the same

Sometimes it's hard to be me
When people stand in my way
I get so easily discouraged
Well, what can I say
They try to mess you up
They try to push you around
They'll do anything
To bring you down

I'm not gonna be
Stuck in mediocrity
When everybody's trying to bring me
Back down to reality
Oh, why can't they see
Just how much this means to me
Maybe one day I'll be special

Your dreams are special to you
But maybe others don't care
It brings you down
When you find them disregarded
And when you're out on your own
It's hard to make yourself stay
And finish up what it was
That you once started

I'm not gonna be
Taken down that easily
When everybody's trying to tell me
What I'm gonna have to be
Oh, why can't they see
Just how much this means to me
Maybe one day I'll be special
I'll be special

It means nothing
It means everything
It means something to me
What you tryin' to say
I'm not gonna play
In this little game
That you have created for me
You had your chance to do
What you needed to
And not it's time for me
To step right up and
Spin that wheel
This time's for real

It's not gonna work this time
Cuz in the end it's going to be mine
There's no need for me to stay
Cuz everything is gonna go
My way
My way, my way
My way
My way, my way, my way

Happy birthday MTV! (twenty-one years, whoodathunkit?)

Okay, I'm ripping off Andrea here:

Website of the Day: The History Channel

A woman on one of my lists pointed out that on the History Channel's website you can
enter any date and find out what events occurred on that day. Here are some of the
events for my birthday, which is May 4:

1886: The Haymarket Square Riot breaks out in Chicago

1929: Audrey Hepburn-Ruston born. (She later dropped the Ruston from her name)

1948: Norman Mailer's The Naked and the Dead published

1959: The first Grammy Awards were announced by the National Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences. Among the winners: Henry Mancini's Music from Peter Gunn
(album of the year), Domenico Modugno's "Volare (Nel Blu Di Pinto Di Blu)" (record
of the year), Perry Como (male vocalist) and Ella Fitzgerald (female vocalist)

1975: Moe Howard dies

1979: Margaret Thatcher, the "Iron Lady" and leader of the Tories, sworn in as Britain's Prime Minister

1980: Josip Broz Tito, communist leader of Yugoslavia, dies

1992: Hewlett-Packard unveils the first commercially available plain-paper fax machine

Happy new month. Well, it's begun. I've changed my address with all the magazines
I subscribe to that allow you to change your delivery address online. I've been
packing books and other stuff to send to L.A. First run out to the P.O. will be this
afternoon.

Some of you have written about this -- I know, I know... I haven't done the song lyrics
for the day in a couple of days. I've been busy. :-) Anyway, here are today's:

My Back Pages
(Bob Dylan)

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin' high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
"We'll meet on edges, soon," said I
Proud 'neath heated brow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
"Rip down all hate," I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Girls' faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

A self-ordained professor's tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
"Equality," I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

In a soldier's stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I'd become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow.
Ah, but I was so much older then,
I'm younger than that now.

"and you, you can be mean, and i, i'll drink all the time"

quiz created by neondisease

Which David Bowie single are you?

you wish you could swim, like dolphins can swim. you're "Heroes".
in an attempt to cleanse yourself, you isolate yourself away with iggy pop in berlin, and along with tony visconti, brian eno, and friends produce a few of your finest works to date. you're a song of desperation, that has grown in time into a work of inspiration and strength.

"Heroes"
released on the album of the same name in 1977, the song has gone on to become an anthem of sorts for bowie. when it was initially released as a single, it had been done so in three languages: english, french, and german.

I missed posting yesterday because we went up to Waco on business. On the way
back we stopped at Fort Hood and met with the people we are developing the application
prototype for. Coming back from there we stopped at the Dairy Queen in Killeen ("probably
the only DQ in the entire 50 states that doesn't take credit cards," BH said, because they
don't. Supposedly they're under new ownership and the merchant services provider is
being a real stickler about the POS waiting period.)

We took the back road from there into Cedar Park. It's a winding road through some of
the prettiest countryside I've seen since moving here from the Bay Area. Sunflowers and
tall grass and hills in the distance every so often. There were scattered clouds out so
the sunlight wasn't blazingly bright and burn-everything-to-a-crisp intense, either.

I've decided that one of the things I'm going to miss about living here is waking up in
the morning to KUT 90.5FM -- the NPR programming is good, but the real feature is
John Aielli's Eklektikos show. This morning they played four different versions of
Kraftwerk's "Tour de France" and now the damn song is stuck in my head.

Despite that, I'll miss listening to the show. And it's not available via as an online stream
anymore either. *sigh*

I recently rediscovered the thirtysomething site put together by the folks at the
now-disbanded Third Story Studios. I still miss that show. Wondering when Bravo
will put it back in reruns.

Went down to Cornerstone Hardware... they're celebrating their
"Lucky 7th Anniversary" with hotdogs, barbecue, cake, pie and ice cream. Special guest
appearance by the King, Elvis Presley. (Okay, so maybe it was an impersonator...
but we had fun anyway.)

Lilo and Stitch at the Gateway 16 later.

So (like you didn't see this coming) here are the song lyrics for the day.

Elvis Is Everywhere
(Mojo Nixon)

When I look out into your eyes out there,
When I look out into your faces,
You know what I see?
I see a little bit of Elvis
In each and every one of you out there.

Lemme tell ya...
Weeeeeeeeeellllllll...

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Elvis is everywhere, man!
He's in everything.
He's in everybody...

Elvis is in your jeans.
He's in your cheesburgers
Elvis is in Nutty Buddies!
Elvis is in your mom!

He's in everybody.
He's in the young, the old,
the fat, the skinny,
the white, the black
the brown and the blue
people got Elvis in 'em too

Elvis is in everybody out there.
Everybody's got Elvis in them!
Everybody except one person that is...
Yeah, one person!
The evil opposite of Elvis.
The Anti-Elvis

Anti-Elvis got no Elvis in 'em,
lemme tell ya.

Michael J. Fox has no Elvis in him.

And Elvis is in Joan Rivers
but he's trying to get out, man!
He's trying to get out!
Listen up Joanie Baby!

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Man, there's a lot of unexplained phenomenon
out there in the world.
Lot of things people say
What the heck's going on?

Let me tell ya!

Who built the pyramids?
ELVIS!
Who built Stonehenge?
ELVIS!

Yeah, man you see guys
walking down the street
pushing shopping carts
and you think they're talking to allah,
they're talking to themself.
Man, no they're talking to ELVIS!
ELVIS! ELVIS!

You know whats going on in that Bermuda Triangle?
Down in the Bermuda Traingle
Elvis needs boats.
Elvis needs boats.
Elvis Elvis Elvis
Elvis Elvis Elvis
Elvis needs boats.

Aahh! The Sailing Elvis!
Captain Elvis!
Commodore Elvis it is.

Yeah man, you know people from outer space,
people from outer space they come up to me.
They don't look like like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons,
all that Star Trek jive.

They look like Elvis.
ELVIS!
Everybody in outer space looks like Elvis.
Cause Elvis is a perfect being.
We are all moving in perfect peace and harmony towards Elvisness

Soon all will become Elvis.
Everything everywhere will be Elvis.
Why do you think they call it evolution anyway?
It's really Elvislution!
Elvislution!

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

That's right ladies and gentlemen,
The time has come!
Time has come to talk
To that little bit of Elvis inside of you.

Talk to it!
Call it up!
Say "Elvis, heal me!"
"Save me, Elvis!"
"Make me be born again
in the perfect Elvis light"

That's right!
You've got that Elvis inside of ya
and he's talkin to ya
He says he wants you to sing!
Everybody's got to sing like the king!

Like the king
Get that leg going now
Get your lip too.
Not no fool Billy Idol lip either
Everybody!
Yeah, we're rockin now!

Elvis is with us.
He's with us and he's speaking to us.
He says "Peoples!"
"Peoples!"
"Everybody!"
"Everybody got to sing!"

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Elvis!
